How this ladder works

This web site records squash match results and ranks players according to their wins and losses. A match result is recorded by one of the players (normally the winner) submitting it on this web site.

Anyone who plays at the university Sports Centre can use the ladder.

Note: email messages from the ladder may go to your mailbox's SPAM folder, you might be able to avoid this by adding the ladder's email address to your mailbox's list of approved senders (whitelist).

Matches
The home page lists the most recent results, a result that caused a change of positions is shown with the score emphasised.

Games are played to 9, points being awarded only with serve. If both players agree they can score with a point being awarded after every serve (PARS) and play to 11 or to to use another scoring system if they wish.

Matches are normally played to 5 (i.e. best of 5, the winner is the first to win 3 games). Players may agree to play best of 3 but if so should agree before playing to record a "2:0" result as "3:0" and a "2:1" result as "3:2".

Normally matches are played with a double-yellow spot ball but players may agree to use a different spot.

Results
If you beat someone above you on the ladder, you take their place and they drop down one place. Anyone who was between your opponent and you will drop down a place too.

An email 'digest' of the past week's results is sent to all players late every Sunday evening.

To see results involving a particular player, go to the list of 'Players', click on the name of the person that you're interested in and then on the 'all results' link at the bottom left of the display. You can then click on any of the results listed and move between them using the 'Later result' and 'Earlier result' links.

Players who don't record any results for two weeks risk being demoted below players who do record results. If you don't record any results for 12 months or more, you may be retired (become an ex-player), if this happens use the 'Contact' form to ask the site administrator to reinstate you.

The results list includes matches played right back to when the ladder began early in the year 2000.

Passwords
As a member of the ladder you have a personal password. You can change your password (if you know what it is now) by updating your details. Click the 'update my details' link after logging in.

If you forget your password you can have it reset and emailed to you via a link at the login prompt.

You need your password to:

  1. submit match results
  2. see other current players' contact details (email addresses and phone numbers)
  3. list past players and their results
  4. change your email addresses and phone numbers
  5. issue a challenge, (submit an offer to play at specific times)
  6. accept a challenge (agree to play at one of the times offered)

Challenges
Anyone can challenge anyone else on the ladder at any time. If you are not sure, check before you play that it will be a ladder match where you record the result or if it will be a 'friendly' or training match.

On the web site you can issue a challenge (offer to play a match) at one or more specific times in the next 7 days. Or you can just speak to or email someone! Web site challenges are available on the web site and other players may select one of the times you designate to agree to play at that time.
